How should contests work?

When I asked what changes people would like to see recently, a lot of you came back with ideas about making improvements the monthly clue contest. https://www.mycrossword.co.uk/blog/what-s-next I think the main concern right now is that voting opens immediately which can lead to early submissions performing better than later ones. There's a few changes I'm definitely thinking of implementing and a couple of maybes too... 1) Have a three day window where submissions are open but voting is not 2) Open voting on day four but leave submission open for any stragglers 3) Send out a "voting now open" email to current participants 4) [maybe] Hide comments until results have been announced 5) [maybe] Move to a two week cycle with submissions lasting for a week Does that sounds reasonable? Anything else I've missed?
