What's Next?

I've got plenty of ideas for where to take MyCrossword next, but before I commit to any of them, I'd love to hear from you.

First, a big thank you. The support from the MyCrossword community has been brilliant, whether that's through Ko-fi or simply by using the site, creating puzzles, solving them and getting involved. It's what makes building MyCrossword worthwhile, and I want to keep giving something back with new features and improvements.

The slight catch is that my spare time is limited, so I can't build everything at once. I'd rather spend it on the things you actually want most.

How to have your say

I've started a few feature suggestion threads in the comments below. Have a look through them and like any comment you'd like to see prioritised.

  • Vote for as many as you like, but try not to like everything just because it all sounds good. If everything's a priority, nothing is! πŸ˜„
  • Reply to a suggestion if you have thoughts on how it should work or something you'd particularly like it to do.
  • Can't see the feature you want? Add it as a new comment. It might be something I've never thought of.

I'll keep an eye on the feedback and use it to decide what to work on next.

Tom

πŸ”€ Daily conundrum: A daily nine-letter anagram puzzle, like the conundrum at the end of Countdown. One a day, same for everyone.

Author

🧩 Daily clue: A single cryptic clue each day, with optional hints and a full breakdown of how it works once you've solved it (or given up).

Author

πŸ§ͺ Find a test solver: A way for setters to find someone to test solve a puzzle before publishing it, and for solvers to volunteer.

Author

πŸ”” Notification badge: A badge showing how many unread comments you have, with new ones highlighted so you can see what's changed since you last looked.

Author

πŸ’¬ Forum / discussions: A space for general chat about crosswords, setting and solving, separate from comments on individual puzzles.

Author

🚧 Barred puzzles: Support for barred grids, where bars separate the answers instead of black squares.

Author

πŸ”€ Alphabetical jigsaws: Support for alphabetical jigsaw puzzles, where each clue is labelled with the first letter of its answer instead of a number, and you work out where each answer fits in the grid.

Author

πŸ“Š Rate difficulty: Let solvers rate how hard they found a puzzle, so others can get an idea of the difficulty before they start.

😍 Annotate your solve: Add emoji reactions to individual clues to mark the ones you loved (or didn't), giving setters feedback clue by clue.

βœ‰οΈ Private messaging: Send private messages to other MyCrossword users.

I'd like to be able to see stats, either privately or displayed with the puzzle, indicating how many people finished the crossword, how many gave up before finishing, that kind of thing.

A bit specific, but I'd love to have the Description column available in clue search results. When I see "Unpublished", I don't know which puzzle it is without clicking through. (Cover Image would also be handy for the same reason.) Thank you as ever for a brilliant site!
