Cryptic crossword No 1,694

Thanks Polymath – this was fun and had some lovely wordplay in it! Favourites included; 10a, 17a, 30a, 33a, 7d, 16d, 26d. A couple stumped me and had to reveal but appreciated when saw the notes – a couple I have a question about in the reply (spoilers).

Thanks for this, Polymath. Struggled to finish having achieved a 90% grid with 28a, 34a (which I still don't understand despite your annotations) and 2d needing reveals. 11a, 27a and 3d my podium. Spoiler in reply. Thanks. PM
