Cryptic crossword No 1,667

Thanks for a fun solve Polymath. Enjoyed 9a, 25a, 27a (nice surface), 3d (also nice surface), 21d (sneaky def). Found north part of grid much easier than south. LOI was 20a, both def and wp requiring a bit of lateral thinking. Quibbles in reply

Thanks Polymath. I'm clueless regarding a theme but nonetheless I enjoyed this immensely with my top picks being 11a, 12a, 20a, 25a, 26a, 6d, 8d, and 13d. I had a ? next to 29a. Nice crossword.

Thanks Polymath, enjoyed this a lot and would have appreciated the theme had I spotted it! Particular favourites were 9a ("setting" is a nice piece of misdirection), 12a, 27a, 13d, 16d and 22d.
