If you're going to open your debut with a clue like 5a, that's a very promising start. Love it! Also really enjoyed 12d and 8a/13a - top punning.

Great, especially the 7 and 8,13 combination. Completion came with a couple of guesses which annotations would no doubt clarify.

A solid debut indeed! 5a has some wonderful layers to it, lots of solid clues throughout. I didn't get the wordplay on some until I checked the annotations, but that's just me missing references (like in 16a) or just not being prepared to think laterally enough (like 17d).
