Jumbo crossword No 5

You deserve some props for having filled those perimetric long lights with decent answers; I sure struggled when I tried it! Ticks go to 1a (what a way to kick off!), 25a, 40a (I could quibble "delay", but I won't!), 49a, 51a, 8d (ha!), 9d, & 49d. Though I know I'm one to talk, I wasn't a big fan of the wordy clues for 42a & 52d; longer entries needing longer clues is fine, but for short ones it kinda breaks the flow of the solve, if you get what I mean? Still, it was all good fun, so thanks!

Well, it took me a few visits but in the end it was far less intimidating than it looked! (It’s the first Jumbo I’ve attempted). It was quiptic clueing on a jumbo scale for the most part, and I managed to complete it without any external reference sources. It’s quite an achievement to fill such a massive grid without any obscurities, and it was all fairly clued. And chapeau for getting a French homophone in!
