3d puzzles

Have you ever tried a 3d puzzle? I guess this discussion topic is suitably 3-dimensional ... 1d) The 2027 3d Calendar is now available, see https://3dcalendarpuzzles.co.uk/ for details - great fun (and a super gift for puzzle enthusiasts) *and* raising £££ for very good causes. Featuring many top setters (there's a Cranberry in there too, but don't let that put you off) 2d) If you enjoy 3d puzzles, or if you're curious and want a taster, here's a puzzle I've written for the upcoming York S'n'B do. (As might be expected in a Fez puzzle, there are "shenanigans") https://tinyurl.com/yt6p4uv8 (It's a PDF, so for download & print ... if you want an online experience of 3d puzzles I can recommend https://charliemethven.com/3d for Chameleon's 3d puzzles) 3d) And more generally - what are your thoughts on 3d puzzles ... as a solver or as a setter? (Plus of course, any feedback on the actual puzzle I've linked would always be appreciated!)

Re (3d) the puzzles can be more complex than the 'simple' grid I've used here. Often answers can start and end anywhere, and 'snake' around in different directions. I *think* I prefer grids without such snakes, but they are limited (with only 5- and 7-letter answers, as here) so 'snakes' perhaps enable richer theming in the answer set and more variety in the answers too? There are other shapes for the grids, including circular puzzles. And they are tough to construct without some obscure words!

I really enjoy them. I’ve bought the 3D calendar for the last 5 years and have enjoyed solving them. I look forward to trying the one you have posted here and yours in the calendar. As a setter, I have made a couple in the past and have been noodling on a new one since doing this year’s calendar.
