Cryptic crossword No 994

Mostly very accomplished, HR. Faves were 21a, 1d, 13d, 20d, 22d. But a couple of the surfaces are IMO a little awkward and the definition for 5d seems to me to be stretched. Also is there an error in 27a? I don't see any container indicator. Last, and very much least, in your annotation for 22d, you have the explanation for 1d! But thanks for the fun. I enjoyed it!

Hi HR and welcome to MyC! I must say that was a cracking debut, lots of very neat and precise clueing and some clever ideas. I particularly liked 10a (very smooth), 12a (simple but effective), 14a (smooth and neat), 19a (very neat), 21a (fun), 25a (clean), 26a (nice), 1d (one-party particularly nice), 6d (fun), 9d (nice), 15d (very neat), 20d (nice) and 24d (very neat) - lovely stuff and looking forward to seeing more!

Like Fez, I recall a recent RC appearance and there were some clues in there I very much enjoyed. Likewise here. Others have picked up on a few quibbles - my only real one ,above and beyond those, is that I found some of the surfaces to be either bizarre or rather clunky. Sorry. But there was plenty of stuff to like including 10a, 21a, 23a, 1d, 6d, 9d, 16d and 24d. Thanks. PM
