Cryptic crossword No 821

I love surface themes of this nature, and DRUNK made for a wonderful puzzle Samsa, thanks for the entertainment! Nice variety in implementations of the thematic elements and you've crafted some very fun surfaces. Nicely succinct throughout too. I particularly liked 1a (good start and a fun construction), 5a (very neat), 11a & 24a (neat), 14a (neat), 15a (fun), 16a (neat), 20a (great fun), 25a (fun and clean), 1d (very neat), 2d (likewise), 4d (very clean), 5d (very neat), 6d (fun and clean)...

Thanks Samsa. There were a couple, 8d and 16d where I hadn't come across a word or usage I needed to parse but I got them from the definition and crossings.
