Cryptic crossword No 692

Thanks Maya, I was over the moon, needing to think outside the box with this fun workout. With all those cross-references, you've packed in a lot of 'thematic' stuff! That theming was star of the show so no particular favourites to pick out. I think I have everyting parsed but could you provide annotations? Spoilers ...

Nice one, Maya! Really good idea, well executed. As Fez says, the theming is the real star but special mention also for 12A, 6D and 9D.

Thank you everyone, I'm really glad you liked it! I apologise for not having time to provide annotations for the entire puzzle, but I don't mind explaining specific clues. (By the way I set crosswords for New Zealand magazines, and we have a somewhat relaxed attitude towards what is considered legit - probably rather more "Araucarian" than "Ximinean", so to speak - plus I've never come across a crossword editor, so I have to police myself, as it were - so further apologies if I slip up...)
