Cryptic crossword No 687

For those of you not put off by the previous one, we wanted this one to be slightly more approachable based on the feedback we received. We hope you enjoy the solve.

Ha! Have just read your SI. I was about to type 'Flamin' heck - not another one!' ... so I won't. My poor old Chambers is still aching from the last one.

Pride, they say, goes before a fall and I was feeling chuffed after solving the first 5 Down clues in a row. (Well, not in a row - they were all Down!). And I did know some of the others like 11a, 13a, 20a, 25a (albeit without H), 16d and 18d. The final one I knew - 21d - just about describes my emotions! Not easy at all but the clueing seemed pretty fair as I went through. What I didn't get was my fault - with the ENORMOUS benefit of hindsight and your Annotations. Well done again. PM

All credit goes to Xylem who really solved this puzzle. We had absolutely no help from Liari or MP (who was probably sleeping at the time) I considered not liking this, but I already had before we started [and no takebacksies].
