Cryptic crossword No 678

Thanks the, this was enjoyable. I'm curious about the grid, is it just compact or is there something else going on? Either way, I like a pangram and it's a nice fill working in a composed space (1d is new to me, fairly clued though). Favourite clues were 18a, 25a, 7d, 20d (great surface) and 22d ("discovery in" is nice).
