Cryptic crossword No 628

I saw a new Leucine and thought that'll be fun and have not been disappointed. You are definitely becoming tougher but in a good way. Likes included: 5a, 19a (interesting image), 25a (lol), 28a (a nice image), 5d and 24d (nicely done). Couple of spoilers in reply. Thanks. PM.

A tough but mostly fair solve, letting myself down with my lack of GK more than anything else. 5d, 15a, and 28a had great surfaces. Thanks, Leucine

Lots of GK needed here - some I knew, not others. I don't mind that as long as it's a wide range, as here, impressively so in fact. Overall I found it quite tough and had to do some revealing. 5a is impressive spot and 5d brilliant. Also particularly like 9a, 19a, 25a and 24d. A couple of potential spoiling quibbles follow.

Nicely done Leucine. I had no hope of 19d or 22d, but others like 17a 1d and 17d didn't cause a problem. I like letter substitution clues of which there were a couple. My only complaint was....

That was 3/4 accessible and 1/4 headscratching! Some GK gaps on my part I think, coupled with some devious clueing on yours. I finished with some brute force bunging-and-checking that just about stopped short of outright revealing 😁 … Liked 11a, 15a, 3d (even if I only understand half of it). A great mental workout. Thanks Leucine - a very enjoyable puzzle. I’m a little late to this so not much to add to the feedback posted so far. I also struggled with some of the GK but in some cases the clear wordplay got me there, which makes for a very satisfying solving experience. Favourites included 5A, 15A, 19A, 14D, and 24D
