Cryptic crossword No 576

Welcome, Fred and what a lovely puzzle. Thank you. I really enjoyed this and there are lots of fun clues and some very cleverly constructed. Nice work! I’ll list some favourites and comment on further posts to explain, so as to avoid any spoilers as I don’t want to ruin anything for future solvers. Thought 10a 22a (LOI) 25a 3d 5d and 19d excellent; there were many other great clues, but particularly liked the constructions in 4d 6d and 27a. Thanks. Spoilers follow…

Lovely first puzzle on here Fred, thanks! A nice level of difficulty (i.e. not too much!) with lots of wit and invention. Favourites were 10A, 11A, 25A, 2D (excellent spot), 6D, 19D, 21D and 26D.

Astounding debut Fred. Full of originality and wit. Will have to remember your proclivity for &lits and triple definitions.

Very impressive debut, thanks Fred. I cracked a smile at many of the surface definitions (6D, 9A, 10A, 11A, 12A, 13A, 25A to name a few!) and it was just the right level of difficulty for a single sitting. Bring on the next one!

Lovely stuff, Fred, very enjoyable. Great sense of fun behind your clues - particular favourites were 25a, 2d (great surface), 14d, 19d, 26d (LOL). As others have said, there are areas that could do with some tightening up, but that's the kind of thing you get better at with practice. Some spoilerish comments in reply...
