Cryptic crossword No 3,798

Hi Sisyphus. Well that was a workout for a Friday morning. Not entirely sure how I got to the end of it - a mixture of actually working out the Nina early for once and some educated guesses with checking letters. Some really nice surfaces and wordplay. Favourites 8a, 5d (haven't seen that one since school!), 13a, 17a and 27a (very smooth wordplay)

Thanks Sisyphus, good fun with a helpful SI (though I feel I may have missed some specific reference?) Faves 8a, 13a, 18a, 27a, 31a, 1d, 3d, 19d (not most 'natural' Spooner, perhaps but I think funny enough to get away with!) Also delighted to find 15d supported by Chambers. Spoilers ...

(As phrased, I think 5d's the wrong way round - it's Sisyphus who is being rejected, not Sisyphus who is doing the rejecting? Though no-one would want to reject Sisyphus of course :))

That was tough Sisyphus. I completed through trial and error with a few checks along the way and several unparsed when the confetti flew. Kudos for the Nina which I didn't recognise till quite late on. Any clues I might have wrinkled my brow at will have been forensically dissected by Fez. Unlike many others, I quite like Spoonerisms so appreciated 19d. Other favourites were 3d, 9a, 13a, 31a, 11a, 20d. Thanks again.

Thanks Sisyphus- I've only just got to this after a few days away. Fun NINA and all gettable for me with a couple of head scratches. Faves were 8a (although I agree with Fez about the special), 10a, 16a, 27a, 14d, 24d. NINA was fun, despite no knowledge of RE. Nitpicks/quibbles...

Thanks Sisyphus for a challenging crossword where I eventually revealed 15d and 21d and needed your notes to understand 7d and 14d. I got the Nina about halfway in so that helped. (28 letter Ninas can be difficult, with the grid fill having odd words or words hard to clue --- you did rather well given the constraints.) My top picks were 12a, 27a, 31a, 6d, and 23d.

Thanks Sisyphus. I'm a bit late to this and the heavy lifting has already been done by Fez, Gennaro and others. I enjoy your imaginative indicators - yes, there is the occasional eyebrow raise but then I reflect on eg 'pluck' and feel, 'Yeah - I can sort of see that if I squint a little'. I guess I wouldn't want a puzzle absolutely stuffed full of squints but now and again they are refreshing. 11a, 25a, 32a, 14d, 23d and 24d my ticks today. Thanks. PM

I wanted to get to this but have run out of time, so I read and enjoyed your annotations instead. Nice job. (16a’s confession is very upsetting but to each their own 🤷‍♂️).
