Firstly, apologies for a very unfriendly grid! The puzzle can be solved 'straight', but there are 10 clues that *arguably* aren't quite right - if you really want that confetti, each of those entries should be changed to a word that describes the nature of the error. Full spoilers follow …

I just saw your post about plonking but only skimmed as short of time, sneaky shenanigans indeed Fez, thanks, not sure I'll ever catch one by me or anyone else for that matter.

A good thought experiment and and even gooder puzzle. I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the matter, I think it just depends on my mood and who ends up testing my puzzles!

A masterclass- in concept, construction and clueing! And so good to have some ‘education through example’ to complement the Manifezto. Part of me still looks back fondly to the days of innocence, but I also know that new knowledge can become ‘innocent’ again when it becomes intuitive. Which takes work. I am in awe, Fez. Having just read your plonking blog (and been for a lie down to rest my brain), I then tried to tackle this. After a hearty struggle got me two thirds of the way through, including, satisfyingly, 4a, 8a, 28a, 1d, 9d, I waved the white flag and clicked reveal. At that point I sat there nonplussed, like a chap just pranked by Jeremy Beadle. Boy, did I feel a plonker!

Hi Fez, great job preparing this, very helpful to have these examples but I have to admit most of them snuck through undetected - even though I had half an idea what was going on having read the blog.

Phew! My bad for not yet having read the latest piece of your blog before doing this. I could see the potential for shenanigans as I moved towards the end of 'normally' solving but was certainly confused when the last one went in. I think I see what you are doing - and think I understand some of it.

Genuis! Nuff said.
