Thanks Orinoco. I had fun solving this with my top picks being 8a, 22a, 25a, 2d, and 19d. Fez has already given you loads of great feedback. If you want to 'pare down' surfaces consider multiple rewrites of the same clue with time for 'ripening' -- often what seems good in the evening stinks by morning!
