Apologies for the unfriendly grid, but ... y'know, theme. Details of which are mostly in annotations but [spoiler alert] ...

Thanks Fez. I knew there would be a theme but it was lost on me of course. Still I found this most enjoyable with my top picks being 1a, 8a, 15a, 23a (love that film), 26a, and 25d. More in reply.

Hot dog, jumping frog, that cut a fine figure, thanks Fez! Lovely theme, perfectly executed, and reminded me how much I don't know about them after the first three LPs. Among a great crop, particular favourites 1a, 15a, 11d, 16d. Thanks again PW

Thanks Fez, the theme is a BIG favourite of mine so I really enjoyed this and my specialist knowledge helped me get to several answers more quickly! Liked 1a, 8a, 12a, 23a and 11d. And if you want a tenuous celebrity connection, the theme's uncle "Mister" was my Religious Education teacher at secondary school! ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

Lovely stuff Fez, thanks. The theme sailed over my head of course and the grid certainly added difficulty, but all the usual Fezzy intricacy to enjoy. Just 2 or 3 tactical letter reveals required to get me through the NW quadrant. Favourites: 1a, 8a, 12a, 15a, 11d, 21d

I sailed through the top half of the grid but found the bottom half far more tricky. Got there in the end and everything parsed: as Coot says, lots of Fezzy intricacy. I'm also with Coot in not being remotely familiar with the theme, though I have heard the name. But that will not surprise you. Faves, too many to mention so a sample - 1a, 8a, 17a, 23a, 4d, 7d, 18d. Thanks. PM

Great puzzle Fez and though it's my era I wasn't a great fan so only familiar with the TOTP big hits. I really like the surfaces/ WP - right up my street...Faves were 1a, 15a, 17a, 19a, 1d, 2d, 13d...

5d was a NHO and I live in Scotland! Also 18d brought back happy memories - hours of fun with a miniature spanner! (whoops! this was supposed to be a hidden comment after last)

Once again, a theme I am totally unfamiliar with, but that didn't decrease my enjoyment of the clueing itself. COTD was 16d - perfection! What a picture in 1a, a whole film! Hard to pick faves, but 12a,15a,17a,23a and 5d (NHO. cool new trivia to recall),11d,13d,21d. 28d is fiendish (guessed, didn't parse, very clever!)

Terrific cluing as per, Fez. 1a, 23a, 16d, 28d all particularly superb, for the wonderful surfaces.

A theme I know nothing about, but a solve I nonetheless enjoyed, particularly 8a, 15a, and 4d (which I was a little disconcerted by having NHO!). Thanks Fez!
