Cryptic crossword No 1,929

Some lovely defs, smart surfaces and fizzy WP. An embarrassing amount of big ticks: 5a, 21a, 27a, 1d, 4d and 5d, etc. Hugely enjoyable and a real treat. Ta lots. (Very mild) nitpicking follows. Please feel free to ignore!

Thanks Cigogne. I’m a little late to this, but worth the wait. A good workout for me, in which I particularly enjoyed and admired 1a, 22a, 27a, 28a, 3d, 4d, 6d, 17d among others. No comments to add to those already offered by others, so thanks again!
