This was a good, solid challenge to me: not a write in, but a steady solve with a couple of thinkers to finish. 30A and 29D were my favourites for their cheeky spark. Two wee things in the reply.

Some very tight clueing here, but also a whole lot of stuff that was just plain /fun/. My faves come from both camps, I think: 12a, 13a, 32a, 2d, 3d & 29d... especially that last one, because what a spot! Gotta agree with both of Mallimack's spoilered points, mind, but otherwise, some excellent stuff. Thanks for the puzzle!

Thanks Gumbo, much enjoyed - lots of impressively concise clues. Faves include 13a, 22a, 27a, 2d & 29d (COTD). Spoilers ...

I'm very late to this, Gumbo, for which my apologies. But happy to add my praise to that already recorded by earlier posters. Quite a stiff challenge but very enjoyable. Some fun liberties taken, none of which I minded in the slightest. Plenty of ticks - highlights inc13a, 16a, 22a, 32a, 2d, 3d, 7d, 14d, 15d and the - surely there can't be such a word - oh, there is - 28d. Same observations re quiblets as others. Thanks. PM
