Cryptic crossword No 170

Thanks Phantom, I very much enjoyed this. Despite being a 18a, I had enough knowledge to get by - I think anyone unfamiliar might find it a struggle though. An impressive amount of themed surfaces as well. Favourite clues were 20a, 32a, 1d and 6d. I think 20d is clever too but has one of the less well known terms I would say.

Thanks, Phantom - that was good fun and an impressive number of themed clues. Thought there was quite a range of difficulty but that’s an observation not criticism and probably says more about me than anything else. Favourites were 9A, 13A, 20A, 1D, 4D, 20D. There’s a few I couldn’t quite parse but again probably my mediocre solver ability - see reply
