This is one of those debuts where one strongly suspects the setter has produced puzzles before; this was nicely crafted with some very well engineered clues. I'd agree it was quite tough; worryingly few on first pass and then things began to fall into place - but it did take a while to get onto your wavelength. Notable ticks include 9a, 13a, 17a, 22a, 3d (COTD), 7d, 14d (other COTD!) and 23d. Thanks. PM

Welcome Tutti and congratulations on a fine MyC debut! Hopefully the first of many. Slightly above my solving pay grade - but that's my problem - and I enjoyed it nonetheless. Top favourites among many: 9a, 13a, 18a, 26a, 5d, 7d, 16d and 20d.
