Cryptic crossword No 1,366

This was enjoyable, with 17a 18a one of the cleverest things I've seen for some time and 30a not far behind; other favourites were 12a, 22a, 31a. One serious issue in reply.

Thanks for a most entertaining puzzle Gumbo! I wholeheartedly agree with Fez's assessment, you've been delightfully succinct and creative throughout. Particularly favourites were 8a (fun surface, neat construction), 9a (simple and fun), 11a (smooth), 17a/18a (splendid, was this a seed clue for the puzzle?), 27a (very clean), 30a (very nice), 1d (very neat), 4d/15d (neat), 14d (neat), 21d (very neat) and 29d (lovely assembly) - top stuff!

Good stuff, thanks Gumbo. Lots of tight cluing and good surfaces here which makes for a fun solve. I particularly liked 8a, 17a 18a (very clever), 30a, 6d, 20d and 29d.
