I do like it when you pop in here, Meles. Your puzzles are always a delight. And this was no less well crafted than its predecessors. I very much enjoyed the smooth surfaces throughout (14a being particularly evocative). Faves amongst many inc: 4a, 8a, 13a, 15a, 17a, 28a, 1d, 2d, 6d, 14d, 16d. Spoilers in Reply. Thanks. PM

Thanks Meles, that was a fair old workout - I got most of the way there without much in the way of 18d. Particularly admired 1a, 17a, 22a, 23a, 27a, 28a, 3d, 7d & 14d and enjoyed many others. Some a bit obscure or tricksy for my capacity to think in a sufficiently lateral manner, but the crossers got me there in most cases. A couple of minor suggestions in reply (spoiler alert)...

Hi Meles, I enjoyed this puzzle and thought both 12a and 28a particularly classy examples of the genre… 22a 23a and 14a also cracking.
