Cryptic crossword No 1,289

Just did this one on stream, Claw, and really enjoyed it. Great stuff all over the place; 1d might still be my favorite.

Thanks Claw, for a fair old workout. My podium: 14a, 26a (COTD)& 2d but plenty else to enjoy. Some of the wordplay a bit complex for my taste (or capacity maybe) and I had to resort to a few letter reveals to get through to the end and the penny didn't drop for a couple of the more obscure ones even after reviewing the annotated solutions, but that's probably just me on a Monday afternoon... Thanks again.

Your comment on mine prompted me to recheck this one out and glad I did as I only had the SW quadrant outstanding, and no idea why I'd abandoned it unfinished (it's been a mad fortnight) as the remaining clues fell quickly and with satisfaction! The first of yours I've tried Claw, thanks for the entertaining puzzle, with lots to like - particularly 5a (very neat), 13a (razor sharp and smooth), 14a (fun), 21a (nice assembly), 24a (similarly), 27a (cute), 3d (clean), 8d (neat), 15d (adventurous...
