Cryptic crossword No 1,248

I logged into the solving of this on Cryptic Sunday and enjoyed it very much. Unusually, I didn't feel like a spectator while others online saw through the various wordplay misdirections, so overall was a well balanced challenge for me. I know the others enjoyed it too, so much appreciated! For detailed feedback, might be worth replaying the solving on Twitch - if I remember rightly there might have been a couple of wrinkles that didn't land so well, but overall was a pleasure for all.
