Cryptic crossword No 1,081

I only get into crossword mode occasionally, and normally for a week or so at a time, so as I'm here I thought I'd throw this in. Nothing special, no themes or tricks, well not intentionally anyway. Just a few clues to solve. Have fun!

Thanks for the puzzle Starhorse, some lovely, succinct clueing on show here. I particularly liked 1a (lovely def), 8a (nho but satisfyingly neat), 9a (neat), 13a (very neat), 15a (likewise), 19a (smooth), 24a (neat), 27a (likewise), 3d (neat), 10d (nice assembly), 16d (cute mechanism), 20d (neat) an d 23d (very neat) - good stuff :)
