Quick crossword No 59

9a presumably refers to Djokovic in the context of the puzzle. Great clue, and really good work to manage that for a 9-letter solution. 7d also stood out for me. Some potentially good clues seemed to be let down by small errors though. Eg in 14a I'm not sure about the legitimacy of Vanuatu's part in the solution, but in any case I think grammatically it should read 'has fun' to chime with the solution. Obviously that would make the surface ungrammatical, but it can be saved with some tweaking...

Nicely put together Chrisj50, and I completed it during the Men's Final which seems apt. Enjoyed 9a, 15a, 18a, 21a, 7d, 8d, 12d, 19d (Ahhh!). Couple of queries in Reply with spoilers.

Does not batting = out? Fielding and waiting turn to bat are alternative defs. Does that work? In 11a 'eats' suggests insertion/containment rather than hidden to me? Something I learned today - that eon can equal eternity. I know it's not defined in normal use (it does have an astronomical metric - 1,000 million years) but it seems illogical that we can talk about eons - which we do. If eon = eternity, that's a contradiction in terms. Nice puzzle Chris. Thanks. PM
