Very nice. Hits the mark on the level of difficulty for a quick crossword. As you say, it's sometimes not easy to avoid being too clever... as I know well as a Times QC blogger, QC setter and editor!

Thanks boznut for the Quick fun. I really enjoyed this with 1d, 2d, 3d, 5d, 13d, & 17d being favourites. There were a few seconds of 'head scratching' but all fell into place eventually. I think you hit the 'difficulty nail' square on its head. Good work.

Thanks boznut. For me, strangely, these were almost all write-ins (nothing wrong with a bit of easy fun) or, in the case of 21a, 3d & 15d, beat me completely! Pick of the bunch was 5d.
