Quite the treat, Coot! While 4a was LOI, I did get them all and found the entire puzzle charming, with 5a my fav, along with 3a and 3d. I salute you and hope you enjoyed constructing as much as I enjoyed the figuring. Thanks again.

Lots of fun Coot but I wouldn't try this myself. I often have trouble with real words let alone ersatz ones. The guess-then-check method got me through this. Still, it was a neat exercise.

A nice one-off idea, Coot, although only a 50% success rate from my side: 3a, 5a and 3d work well and have lovely surfaces, but the rest proved impenetrable - thanks

I struggled with 4a, and didn't get the intended sense of 2d but the others were certainly doable. I was considering taking up tpgrammar's challenge myself but had other things to do and would have taken a lot longer over it!

You're as bad as Henri! I would describe this as 1D. Your decision whether that's the fun to solve 1D or not of course. 3A and 3D are the most believable I'd say.

3a is lovely! I’d have happily solved that in a “real” crossword. Make your case for a new clue type… I think a grid full of toddlerisms might make for a delightful solve.

Cute! I didn't fully "solve" it all, but did properly get 3a,5a and 2d. 3d is a fun word!

That was fun. Aren't ALL words made up?
