Featured crossword No 17

Thanks Liari for a nice set of clues with my top picks being 20a, 27a (COTD), 1d, 4d, 6d, and 8d. Overall this was a quick solve for me with my only snag being 18d. A worthy featured crossword IMO.

Thanks for the grid! It was very fun. 15a was my favourite! Also 6a, 8d, and 27a. 19d is devious but appreciate the construction. Agree with 15sq that I don't understand the role of "Washington" in 5d. And 27a is so mysterious... It really makes me think I'm missing a 27a in the puzzle, but I can't see it!

Thanks Liari, I liked it lots and I’m sure others will too. My many highlights included 6a, 15a, 16a, 23a, 27a (I see Gennaro likes it too!) 8d, 14d, 24d, 26d and 19d, which I guessed first and after some pondering finally saw the light- a brilliant clue!

Very nice, thanks Liari - a worthy addition to the featured series. I raced through most of it but became irredeemably stuck in a couple of places. 19d, in particular, was ungettable for me. Favourites: 16a, 23a, 4d, 14d and 26d (COTD).

Thanks Liari. A satisfying solve. Favourites 10a, 1d, 4d and 8d. 19d went in half parsed, and then elucidated on Google. After i saw Umpire's comment I went back and reviewed the grid until the penny dropped. Very impressive.

Hi Liari, I really enjoyed this puzzle. Like the others I got stuck in a few places but since I generally have few qualms reaching for a word finder or Google the key for me is the aha moment when the right word is located... And this puzzle delivered many lovely ahas. Favourites were 6a, 12a, 22a, 1d, 4d & 14d. cheers!

I commented in the other place. Really enjoyed this but fell a little short. 19d in particular was an NHO combined with niche GK I didn't possess, lol, but it mattered not a jot!
