Hello all. I am a university student setting for The Oxford Review of Books, but this is my first upload to MyCrossword. I welcome any feedback you have — good and bad!

Hello Quince and welcome to MyCrossword. A very good effort: started smoothly for me but became quite tough towards the end, with some I had to look up. 'Likes' for 1a, 11a (clever!), 15a (good example of this clue type), 28a (and yes I recognise the dog - do you have one like it?), 1d, 2d, 3d (how true!), 8d (THAT 'Cummings'!), 21d. I didn't immediately suss out the 'fountain' in 16a, not heard of 22a, but fairly clued. 19d a new word to me, and it's not in Chambers - American? (cont...)

Thanks Quince. I thought this was good fun, with many excellent clues, though too tough for me in places. There’s a button to turn the annotations on before publishing. I’m not sure if this can be done once published. It would be interesting to see your notes and find out what I missed. There are more accomplished setters and solvers on here who will be able to give you technical feedback. My favourite clues were 6a, 10a, 11a, 28a, 3d and 7d. Thanks again. I enjoyed this.

Well, that was fun, though I couldn’t get 27a and still don’t understand how it works; can’t parse 25d either. Some very neat surfaces, such as 6a, 19a, 22a, 18d. Particular likes 1a, 10a, 16a (who presumably was the dog), 17a (neat misdirecting for on), 28a (how would we survive without Dr Spooner?!), 3d, 4d (a Spanish reference that isn’t el), 7d, 8d (hilariously topical!). Some new or unfamiliar words at 22a, 2d, 19d, 20d but fairly clued. Thank you.

Blasted predictive text. Neat misdirection at 17a...

Thank you all! I am very grateful for all the feedback, which has been encouraging and fair. I typed out all the annotations, but I must have forgotten to save it before publishing... So now that it's been up for a while, below are some explanations for the more elusive clues:

You can go back and add annotated solutions retrospectively. If you go back to your published crossword via “Your crosswords” there is an option under the cog to create and share them.
