What a great crossword! There are some cracking clues in here and even a mini theme. I really enjoyed it and found myself smiling at 4D, but especially 2D. My favourite clue was 14A – I had to Google this one to confirm the definition but this is a very clever clue indeed.

Couldn't parse 1D and couldn't see 18D at all. I'm sure it's just me. Very enjoyable!

Excellent crossword, very strong all round. Love the theme too! Thanks Skirwingle.

Thanks Skirwingle - I enjoyed that too! 24a was my favourite as I really liked the surface. 4d made me laugh too!

14a was lovely and very apt. Thanks for a good puzzle.

A delight to be reminded of one who was a great crosophile as well as a cinephile (and, as I didn't know before, "Cinephile") as well as a good and courageous human being. Some stuff of which the great man himself would have been proud, personal favourites 1ac, 26ac and 10dn.

Very clever theme and I don't think there was a weak link in this anywhere. I think this is probably the best puzzle to have appeared on this site so far.

Thanks Skirwingle, this was a nice, gentle solve, with fun to be had. There are two I can’t parse though, i.e. 5D and 18D. My favourite clues are 9A and 10D. Minor quibbles - unsure about the use of the 1st person in the long across clues, and am not sure if 2D is cryptic enough.

Nice work. Loved the four longuns, plus 12, 14 and 24.

Really good fun - nice one. Faves included 7D for the surface (not so much for disguise as funny image!), 19A and 11A. Looking for any improvements, it felt quite anagrammy (NB without counting up, so I might be being oversensitive!). And I happened to hit the two "perhaps"es in a row which grated a touch, so maybe could vary them about. But that's all nitpickery. Very pleasant smooth solve for a late evening. Cheers, Al (masterclass colleague)

Just catching up with old puzzles and enjoyed this one. Thanks Skirwingle. Loved 10d especially
