Cryptic crossword No 449

First time I've done one of yours Madryn. Definitely won't be the last though. I thought this was excellent. Ticks for nearly everything, double ticks for 10A (lovely PDM when I got the definition) 16A (great second def) 20A (took me far long to see it DOH!) 23A, 31A, 3D LOL, 5D (nice indicator), 6D again LOL, 9D, 17D (normally hate these but another LOL) 27D (excellent!) That was a wonderful puzzle Madryn, thank you. I particularly liked the word pairings and wondering if I missed anything else in the grid. Tons of satisfyingly clever stuff too, with the following deserving special mention: 1d, 4a and 10a are lovely charades, and 10a's def is top notch; 12a a fun device; 16a was a wonderful cd; 23a neat; 26a likewise, and a wonderful surface - yours are consistent lovely throughout to be honest; 6d went over my head during the solve but another clever clue; ...

Excellent, Madryn, really nice puzzle, very enjoyable to solve - nicely judged level of difficulty, right in the sweet spot for me. And a good laugh when I spotted the theme! 10a is a great clue, very clever definition. Also ticks for 16a, 26a, 31a, 6d, 9d, 18d, 27d. One small spoilery quibble in reply... [ETA: made my comment before reading others, but glad to see they've picked out 10a too]

Hi Madryn. I remember being delighted with your puzzle back in March and this was as good, if not better. Very smooth throughout and I agree with others' comments about the subtlety of what you've done. Clueing was very direct and fair, even the Lego ones were straightforward to assemble. Favourites include: 10a, 16a, 20a, 23a, 5d, 6d, 19d with 9d being my COTD. No quibbles worth noting. Don't leave it so long next time 😊

Much like Blah, I enjoyed this very much. Plenty of ways to get a foothold, and some nice trickier ones after that. Particular ticks for 10A, 16A, 6D, 14D and 17D and for the overall grid construction (which I hope isn't too much of a spoiler to put in my first comment). Couple of minor quibbles in reply.
