Cryptic crossword No 3,906

If it's Friday, it must be Sisyphus! An interesting challenge as always, thank you. I'd pick out 22a, 26a, 7d, 14d and (particularly) 21d as fave clues. Not sure what to make of the SI - I can see several mini-themes (opera, cricket, MyC setters) but is there something else I'm missing...?

Thanks Sisyphus, I just about managed this one. Favourites were 24a, 26a (had to do a wordsearch before it clicked), 14d, 16d. I wondered if you were going for occupants of Asgard at one point. 2d continues to puzzle me though (see reply).

Thanks Sisyphus for a challenging crossword where the reveal function was necessary given my somewhat limited knowledge. 20a, 25a, and 5d were beyond my orbit unfortunately. Of course I found much to like including 15a, 26a (COTD), 16d, and 19d. More in reply

In 13a I could not find where AT is an abbreviation for Austria, in 11a 'declared' being in the middle of the clue could lead to Baldur or balder, and in 18a the definition was in the middle of the clue --- unconventional, but not a problem for me personally but 'others' might object. Overall I like your 'expansive' view (as long as I can solve the clue 😆 ).

I think I have found this the hardest of your puzzles to date, Sisyphus, and had to resort to the reveal button more often than I'd like. A few tricks exercised the eyebrows somewhat. Podium is 24a, 5d and 6d. Thanks. PM

Hi Sisyphus! Back from a work trip and late to the party but honoured to be included! Like others, I found this hard but I got to the end this time. Aside from 25a (obviously), 26a is probably my favourite. Also love 21d, 5d, 7d and 10a

Well done. Not as tough as the last one i tried of yours. Well, I say that - really what I mean is I completed it quicker - there were a few that I really only got part of but it was enough to sense the answers - very enlightening to see the annotations. I particularly liked the clean lines of 4d and 15a, I got 20a from one side - I'll have to look up the other side - every day is a school day! 10a was a very nice clue indeed, very satisfying.
