Thanks Orinoco, that was quite a challenge giving me a sense of achievement when completed, albeit with a few guesses and a few unparsed. I was amazed that 16a jumped out at me despite me being north of the border. I needed to refer to your notes to understand 1d, 9a and 10a. Too many impressive clues for me to highlight any favourites but 23a conjured up an amusing image.

Thanks Orinoco, enjoyed this. Favourites include 16a, 1d, 3d, 6d, 7d, 23d. Stumbled a bit on 24a - "leaving" might more commonly indicate that the President is the one leaving, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the clue! - and on 17d - didn't get the point of the "superior" construction without reference to your notes. Good puzzle.

Thanks Orinoco for a puzzle nicely in the Goldilocks zone. Educational too- after all these years I’ve finally learned there’s no coal in 16a! Lots of nice touches, with particular favourites being 10a, 23a, 1d, 8d, & 17d. Keep em coming!
