Cryptic crossword No 374

Very nicely done Twmbarlwm - thanks! The special instructions were of course a huge leg up making this relatively gentle overall, although I got a little held up in the NE. You did well to include only a couple of obscure words given the constraint. I particularly liked 4A, 11A, 14A, 8D and 12D.

Congratulations Twmbarlwm. Barely a superfluous word, no fault in logic or grammar that I spotted as I went through and almost every surface was nicely done. A real treat. This comment will age so only those reading it today are likely to make the comparison but I found more to query in both Guardian and Independent today than I did in this. Finally got round to doing this one this evening and I'm glad I did - it's excellent work, Twmbarlwm, really well polished with only a couple of minor quibbles that are too minor to be worth mentioning. I've not done your latest over at Big Dave's site yet but assuming it's up to the same standard as this one, I can see why Prolixic has put you up for promotion. Bravo!
