Thanks Pentman, a good challenge at which I repeatedly failed! Had to reveal 17a, 7d, 24d and 25d and did some parsing after the event elsewhere. But I enjoyed the clever clueing of a recent Gennaro favourite in 1a, despite wondering if there could be a better juxtaposition for the last bit, and also especially liked 15a, 27a, 1d, 3d, 4d and 14d. Good to learn some more Scottish dialect! Cheers.

Thanks Pentman for the challenge. I ended up revealing 4d, the nho 7d, and the nho 8d but the rest fell into line with 1a, 5a, 28a, 2d, 16d, and 18d being favourites. BTW there's a typo in 1a; I also think the clue would work equally well without the word 'old'. There were bits I couldn't parse but your notes cleared things up.
