Cryptic crossword No 3,390

Great stuff, yogdaws. Having contributed a snooker-themed crossword myself a couple of weeks ago, this was a joy. Favourites included 1a, 13a, 22a (COTD), 5d, 14d (took me a while to parse but a great PDM) and 19d.

Having enjoyed Orinoco’s puzzle at the start of the championship it was great to round it off with yours. Well done for getting so many references in! I thought 12a was a brilliant scene-setter, with further applause for 1a, 10a, 22a, 5d and 14d. I solved 9a and 3d but neither recognised the Marvel connection nor their relation to the main theme. Thanks for the fun.
