Lovely stuff PM. Great surfaces, concise - not one over 7 words (don't know how you do it!). Fun surfaces. Have to admit I'm not familiar with the def/synonym in 10a. 16a and 2d are favourite plus 8a, 12a, 13a, 21a and 29d... a question in reply

Quiptic it was, but a thing of real beauty!!! I loved everything about it. Nothing to add except please let me be this good one day! Thanks PM.

Got about half these without reveals. Adored 16a! Lovely surfaces all round.

Very nice PM, a really fun solve with 16a, 21a and 20d standouts for me. Like others I’m blown away by the economy in the clues while still having such great surfaces! Bravo!

Great stuff, PostMark - a really enjoyable solve and, yes, noticeably easier than your usual fare. By coincidence, a very similarly structured clue for 8a is in today's Times (as well as in my featured puzzle from last week). Not heard of 3d or 17d, and my faves are: 10a (clever use of a common abbreviation to hide the answer), 20a (lovely surface), 1d (nice wordplay) and 14d (excellent execution of this device).

Great demonstration of elegant setting without being difficult. I rattled through, enjoying the surfaces, and the well-hidden hidden words. 13a and 16a, 15d and my LOI, 32a which stumped me for a bit before the penny dropped.

I particularly liked 21a and 28a. Can only echo another commenter with the wish to be this good one day!

Thanks PostMark. I was able to eventually solve and parse everything so it wasn't your toughest IMO but it was certainly well-crafted and enjoyable. Favourites included 8a, 23a, 2d, 15d, 19d, and 25d.

I'm kicking myself that the beauty of the deserved "fan favourite" 16a only dawned on me after I revealed an extra letter. What a bit of perfection! But then, every clue is a masterclass. I love the way you make the solver think around corners with creative, but perfectly fair language use, as in 10a, or the way words do double duty, as in 6d. And the way your clues tell tiny stories: 13a,7d,14d. Thanks, PM

Thanks, PM - congrats on a very enjoyable puzzle that really takes advantage (as Boznut has pointed out) of conciseness. The NW was the only thorny corner for me with 10a and 2d highlights. Also greatly enjoyed 6d, 12a, 21a, 28a, 31a, the simple but satisfying 25d, and 20d for starters. New vocab for me in 5d, thanks. Fun all around - thanks again.

Thanks PM, very much enjoyed this - definitely on the friendly side! As has been remarked on, the combination of conciseness and good surfaces is excellent. Too many top clues to choose from, but I really liked 6d and 20d.
