Thanks Gradgrind. Some very enjoyable clues e.g. 16a, 25a, 30a, 1d, 5d, 6d & 24d. Some trickier, and the theme especially difficult for the likes of me (won't spoil by saying why). Once I twigged though, the others were more tractable.

Nice! Beautifully smooth surfaces throughout and some ingenious and elegant clueing to boot. A thoroughly enjoyable solve. SPOILERS in reply

I realised after posting that I hadn't listed the clues I wished to praise as particularly enjoyable, so here it is 11A, 16A, 25A, 32A, 5D, 7D, 15D, 29D. I'd class 15D as an &lit or very close and 29D I originally entered incorrectly thinking wtf is cryptic about that. Lovely pdm when I realised my mistake.

Great stuff, Gradgrind. Impressively neat and concise clueing. Favourites were 11a (amusing surface), 22a, 25a, 32a, 15d, 23d, and I especially enjoyed 29d, very clever. Spoilers in reply...

Thanks Gradgrind. I needed a thematic list to hand to complete this. Well done on getting so many themesters into the grid. My favourite clues are 14d, 20d, and 24d.

Full of admiration for the succinct clueing and elegant surfaces from 1 to 32. I'm familiar with more Scottish islands than many, I'd guess, but there were a couple here that floored me. But they were fairly clued. 13a, 16a, 25a, 6d, 7d, 15d favourites. SPOILERS IN REPLY.
