Thanks, Skirwingle, for a nice solve. Full of witty clues. 1d,16d, 22a my favourites.

A nice grid with a nice shape and an impressive number of tens. Enjoyed 26a (always like a good clue of that type), 5d (what a find), 9a, 19a, and the 16d/22a link

Very entertaining! Round of applause and a slap for 6D. Also liked 8A,10A,11A actually I'm going to stop there. There's not a single clue I didn't enjoy! Marvellous stuff!

Super stuff Skirwingle, thanks! The full parsing and subtlety of 11D passed me by until I read the annotated solutions and Blah's comments - very nice. And 6D has gone totally over my head not having the necessary GK. COTD for me has to be 17D!

Nice one, Skirwingle. Lots of fun here. I was initially not keen on the grid design, but assumed there had to be a reason... still failed to spot it until I read your notes and saw the parsing for the key clue. Can't believe I missed it! Parsing for 26a also passed me by - not used to seeing that kind of clue out in the wild. Nicely done. The reference for 6d was completely lost on me, unfortunately. Agree with Tug about 5d - well found. 17d is my top pick - very cheeky but a sound clue.

Attempted this on the recommendation of Blah and very glad I did. Ticks for plenty of clues: 10a, 11a, 12a, 5d (remarkable), 7d, 16d/22a and COTD/LOL 17d, the surface of which had me spluttering over my breakfast. Witty and clever throughout. SPOILERS IN REPLY.

Good fun! 17d very Paul-esque!

Agree with other comments about this enjoyable/challenging puzzle. Excellent surfaces, many garden paths to lead us up. Particular favourites 1d, 3a, 5d, 16d / 22a, 17d & 23a. Minor typo in clue for 3d (characteris[t]ed)?

Wonderful all around. Kicked myself for 11d - very clever. Lovely surfaces everywhere, and well done on 5d.
