Cryptic crossword No 3,052

Hi Pentman, I thought this was much better than your first offering, which required more local knowledge than I thought was fair to expect in a ‘global’ crossword. Here I found pretty much everything gettable (17a and 19a were outside my knowledge base although guessable from the crossers) with some very neat clueing. Ticks for 12a, 13a (my fave), 15a, 28a, 1d, 6d, 8d and 14d (strange surface but very clever). More below…
