Terrific. 1a,19a, 27a,7d, 8d, 20d, etc, so cleverly done.

Looking for a bit more of a test than was served up in my nationals of choice this morning and this was perfect widders. Many thanks. Agree with the praise for 8d, together with 5d, 16d and 21d, 10a, 11a, 13a and 29a. Spoilers in Reply.

Very nice indeed. Quite tough, but worth it - 27A especially made me work hard, but it was a lovely, satisfying PDM.

Agree with Ameoba, quite tricky, but satisfying to get there in the end. Liked 8d 24a and 27a in particular

Great puzzle, thanks. The difficulty level was spot on for me. My favourites are 17a, 24a, 29a, 3d, 7d, 23d (groan!). I needed your notes to parse 26a and 1d

I'm continuing my slow catch-up of puzzles that have happened while I've not been paying attention (will take a while). This one is great. Lovely surfaces throughout, nice disguise, and a few definitions designed to make you think. Faves weirdly adjacent: 2d, 3d, 4d, 5d, 6d, 7d, 8d. Loads of other elegant treatments too. A couple of pedantries in the reply..
