I enjoyed this, and am not surprised to see that I'm one of many. Particular favourites 1a and 11a. A few spoilery comments in reply.

I struggle with 2d. "Mag" so far as I am aware (I had a beloved aunt of that name) is an abbreviation of "Margaret" which means pearl, rather than lily or rose. A commode (in 15d) is a chamber-pot but certainly doesn't fit Chambers' definition of a lavatory as "a toilet that is cleaned of waste by the flow of water through it". Does "bet" in 22d really mean "was sure to come"? And with 24d, but I respectfully suggest you may be on the wrong side of the line between clever and too-clever-by-half.
