Diabolical! I figured out most of the unclued words, and where they came from, but another part passed me by. Bravo, fabulously clever! I really liked 9a (COTD, made me laugh), 19a, 22a,24a, 27a (so neat), 3d,6d (so satisfying), 14d,20d . Hell, why try to choose favourites?

Terrific work Henri - a not-too-taxing solve once the theme revealed itself, and some nice clues as well - 4d my favourite. Thanks!

Thanks Henri for the challenge. I nearly bailed early on but somehow things began to click. I particularly enjoyed finding the defintions in the down clues after I got the across trick. I revealed 10a & 12a and disliked the word at 5d but all else was fun. My podium was 22a, 24a, and 4d.

Muddled my way through in the end. The non themed across clues all went in easily enough and I started spotting superfluous words as progressed through the downs. At first I thought they were all going to indicate anagramming so I guess I was on the look out for such and as soon as I saw 11a, the game was up. Nicely done. Faves inc 19a, 24a, 4d, 6d and 20d. Thanks. PM
