Cryptic crossword No 2,585

Thanks for the puzzle, boznut. I found it quite challenging, but I got there in the end - including a look in the dictionary for 7d. Lots of neat wordplay - I particularly liked 1d - and other faves include: 11a, 15a, 10d and 16d. I am new to critiquing others' puzzles, but I include a few thoughts in the reply (with spoilers).

Hi boznut. I enjoyed this and I hope you get a couple more solvers along to enjoy the wit. 15a is a super spot, 27a very nicely done, 6d amusing, 10d very naturally done (and no sign of the extraterrestrial!) and of course the delightful 1d. Thanks. PM
