That was fun! After getting 9a from the crossers and 13d, I realised what was going on and the rest went in fairly quickly, apart from 4d where my lack of fashion knowledge let me down.

Thanks for the comment. I confess I've not been on this site much, recently: been deserted by the crossword-setting Muse of late. This is one I started some time ago, and only with a supreme effort was I able to complete it. There is no theme apart from what is implied in the clue to 9a etc. But I hope it raises a laugh. SPOILER below.

I had my suspicions about the long one, right from the off. I couldn't recall *quite* the right wording though so needed some crossers - and then the originator of the quote solved and it all came together. That is one heck of an anagram. I'd agree with Petert on the COTD being 28a. Very neat. Thanks. PM
