Cryptic crossword No 22

Wow! This is in a different league! What a wonderful puzzle! Thanks for putting it on this site. I love pretty much all of these clues. The heartiest chuckles accompanied 5A, 13A, 17A, 24A, 9D, and 22D, while the rest just filled me with admiration. Oh, and I have to mention...

Absolutely superb! Loved 6d, 9d, 22d, 13a and 17a.

Some very clever clues. I really liked 9d, 22d and 17a (when the penny finally dropped!)

Quite superb, and the mini-theme running through 1A, 12A, 16A, 17A, 23A, 24A, 26A, 27A was very clever. 26A was one of the neatest clues I have seen for some time, and I particularly liked 12A, 23A, 4D, 8D and 9D as well. IMHO this was a far better crossword than today's Everyman

Thanks for the nice comments. 10 is also a 23 word, as are 'cheetahs', 'Sri Lanka' and 'Singapore'.
