Ha! Unlike tpg, 12a was actually the first solution spotted by this old fogey solver - before I'd properly begun the solve. No idea why. And 4d/22d does appear to be fairly well known - though I did need help there. 20a/10a, 23a, 13d (COTD), 18d and 21d were my faves. Thanks. PM
